113-Day Old Cub Making Progress Towards Public Debut
ATLANTA –Dec. 28, 2006 – Governor Sonny Perdue joined Zoo Atlanta’s Senior Veterinarian Dr. Maria Crane to perform today’s weekly health check of giant panda cub, Mei Lan. Both Governor Perdue, a licensed veterinarian and Dr. Crane declared Mei Lan to be in good health and to be on track developmentally.
“It was such a thrill to participate in this week's exam of Mei Lan,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “I was impressed with how tolerant she was of the exam, which allowed us to accurately measure her weight, length and girth. The world is watching the wonderful research being performed here at Zoo Atlanta, and I was honored to be a part of the team this morning.”
Mei Lan tipped the scales today at 13.9 lbs and has grown to 28.9 inches. Her growth continues at a steady pace with her averaging a one pound gain and a one inch increase in length per week.
